Kimber Notes FAQ
With the increasing prevalence of Fake Kimber advertised on various online platforms like eBay, Audiogon, Stereonet etc it is very difficult to work out whether an item is genuine or not.
If you are unsure, Kimber in the USA are only to happy to assist. Just send them photos – the higher the resolution the better – or a link and they will check it for you. Contact the Kimber factory directly on info@kimber.com. You will be impressed !
As a general rule, when looking at a Kimber advertised “as brand new” a very simple test to apply is: “If the price is very low, then its a fake”. It’s that simple.
Why? Because Kimber is a real company. It makes its own product, in its own factory, in Utah USA! It is NOT made in China or another low cost country. Kimber is a genuine product, not some re-branded OEM item. So there is no way a seller can be offering a brand new Kimber item at a silly price! Oh, and don’t believe the seller’s wild stories about how come the cable is so cheap!
Yes there are counterfeit Kimber Kables out there. We have encountered several TC series cables in Australia recently (2022-23). One pair was even sold via a legitimate dealer on a well known Australian website offering stereo equipment for sale. The dealer even had the gall to say he’d purchased them from us! A direct lie. There are fakes on sites like eBay, Audiogon and many others. EVERY Kimber on AliExpress is FAKE! Here is how to spot them:
Fake offerings online from China of junk wire dressed up to look like Kimber – yes, the photos are of the real thing, they pinched those. e.g. the so-called 8TC cable is just low grade PVC insulated tinned copper wire, far inferior to Kimber’s entry level 8PR – and more expensive than 8PR too!
The banana’s are a joke, flimsy, poor quality things that will fail with minimal use. They are a giveaway that the cables are fake. Watch out for the dodgy heatshrink markers and fake packaging too.
Kimber Kable is NOT made in China. The Chinese distributor has to purchase the cable from Kimber in the USA, exactly the same we we do, therefore it is IMPOSSIBLE for it to be sold at a price lower than us. So if it looks too good to be true …. its a fake!
Watch out for garbage interconnect clones too. Remember, Kimber is not made in China and so how can it be cheaper there than in the USA?
Kimber Kable is not sold via online platforms like eBay, audiogon, Stereonet etc so if a brand new Kimber item is offered for sale, its pretty much bound to be fake!
Because it works! It will improve the sound of any audio system – guaranteed.
Kimber Kable is a REAL product, it is not a marketing product. It is made in USA in Kimber’s own factory in Utah. Kimber only release new products if they detect a quantifiable improvement in the performance.

With Kimber Kable, the answer is no! There will be no audible difference in sound provided the shorter cable is greater than half the length of the longer one. Its a great way to save money and keep your room tidy.
Here is an example: Right Channel = 3.6m Left Channel 2.2m is OK, but 1.0m + 4.0m is not recommended (here we would suggest increasing the 1.0m to 2.0m).
NO! They are still perfect and maybe check back in another 25 years’.
The PR, VS* and TC series were released over 40 years’ ago and are STILL in full production today! We’ve been the Australian distributor for almost all that time and we have 35 year old 4PR and 8TC cables as demo cables. When the dielectric is stripped off the copper wire inside is still PERFECT! Zero tarnishing, zero damage and the Ultraplate Bananas look brand new with zero loss of spring.
Of course you may wish to upgrade to a higher performance model and you WILL get a noticeable improvement in sound quality. If you do, then pass on your treasured cables to a family member or friend. (I’m not implying that family members are not friends, so no cheeky emails please). They can get another 25 years out of them and will always remember who gave them the wonderful gift.
* In 2023, Kimber upgraded the PR series to have the same spec as VS. So PR “merged” with VS, keeping the PR model name.
